NASA’s TESS Has Discovered A New World and 6 Exploding Stars


It was in April that NASA launched one of its most anticipated space missions, nicknamed TESS. The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite was designed so that it can find the various exoplanets around the solar system, thus looking for potential way-outs. According to the latest reports, the mission has now discovered a brand-new world and six exploding stars as a part of its exploration venture.

These celestial elements have been discovered at a place that can be called a ‘cosmic backyard’ of the solar system and would have an impact on the exoplanet study NASA and other organizations have been doing in the past couple of years. The new exoplanet has been named HD 21749b, following the code that is given to most exoplanets that were found in this manner. And, the new world is quite different from the Earth.

According to the categorization of NASA, the newly-found world can be called a sub-Neptune, a name that is given for the characteristics. While the planet seems to be three times larger than the Earth, its total mass is 23 times that of the Earth. Compared to exoplanets that were found by the system earlier, HD 21749b has a shorter orbit, meaning that it is very close to the host star.

As of now, the exoplanet requires 36 days to complete a transition around the star. Despite this closeness, however, the temperature in the exoplanet is incredibly lower, which is recorded at 300 Degree Fahrenheit. The details were published recently and the people behind the collaboration added that details about a few other planets are to be published very soon.

NASA considers TESS to be a great player in the planet-hunting process. The organization believes that TESS would also be able to capture details about other objects in the space, which is of huge importance as a lot of organizations are preparing its lunar and Martian missions.
